PASS PLUS
Pass Plus is a training scheme backed by the Government, Driving Standards Agency
and insurers. Passing your driving test is the first stage in learning to become
a safe, considerate driver. By taking this course, you can obtain cheaper motor insurance
from participating insurance companies.
The scheme consists of a specially designed
training session/sessions to follow on from a successful driving test, to take in:
town driving, out of town driving, all weather and night driving, dual carriageways
and motorways.
The extra experience and positive driving skills obtained from Pass
Plus would otherwise take a long time to acquire. Statistics show that drivers are
more likely to have an accident within the first two years of passing their test
than at any other time in their driving careers. The more you drive the more you
develop the skills that are vital to your own safety and the safety of other road
users. In particular; effective observation; hazard perception and judgement. Until
you have acquired these skills you will be at greater risk. That risk is reflected
in car insurance premiums.
Pass Plus can be taken up to a year after passing your
driving test. There is no test to take. When your instructor is satisfied with your
performance you receive a certificate from the Driving Standards Agency.
Participating
insurers will give you a one-step progression on their discount scale when you insure
your own car. This means a one-year's no claims bonus for comprehensive, third party,
fire and theft, and third party policies when you insure your own car.
The no claims
bonus can be deferred for two years if you currently drive under someone else's policy.
If you buy a car within two years of completing Pass Plus and have not had any claims
in the meantime, your first premium will be reduced by the extra one-year's no claims
bonus. By taking part in the Pass Plus scheme you may find that the insurance savings
may more than cover the cost of the training!
We have found that pupils after taking
Pass Plus feel far more confident in their driving ability.
Being a positive driver
is a continuous learning process.
